One of my favorite products from ELF are their brightening eyeshadow quads. I got this lovely quad in Butternut. One thing I like about this quad is you can play the colors down or up, depending on what look you’re going for. It’s great for everyday use as well. I don’t like wearing bright colorful looks everyday so this is perfect for me.
The picture on ELF’s website is kinda deceiving since the shadows appear to be matte, but they are shimmery in real life. I particularly like the brown shades, especially the bronzy one. They are pretty pigmented but its staying power is so-so.

Each quad is comprised of 4 coordinating shades that allow for both natural and dramatic looks. Built-in mirror and applicator included.

Availability: Can be bought online and at any ELF counter nationwide.
Shades: They have over 18 shades available. They have shades for Smokey looks, bright looks and neutrals.
I can actually live without the lighter shades in the quad and I don’t like using the lightest, off white color as a highlight since it’s too shimmery for me. But for those who love shimmers for highlights, it’s a plus. The peachy color is good for using it as a base though. I just don’t like it as much because it’s basically the same color as my skintone. They aren’t that pigmented compared to the dark colors.
See what I mean? I’ve swipped the lighter shadows multiple times but they still won’t show up as well as the darker ones which I swipped only once.
- Versatile color selection.
- Very affordable.
- Useful for everyday look. I reach out for this quad more often if I’m going to make a neutral look.
- Lighter colors don’t show up very well.
- Useless built-in mirror.
- Always use a primer to avoid creasing and to make the shadows more vibrant.
- Use a sticky base for powdery shadows.
- Dark colors can be used as liners.
I will definitely repurchase, but I’ll try a different shade since their collection looks really nice and tempting. LOL. I like this quad overall. It’s worth the money and it’s a good buy, actually. 🙂
